Maximum Pressure = Maximum Power & Speed

Websters Dictionary describes pressure as a physical force exerted on a surface area. In skating, that surface area is the ice. In order to have maximum power and speed, you must first exert maximum pressure to the ice. The body needs to be in optimal position in order to exert this pressure. In other words, the body must press into the ice with maximum force.

Websters defines the word press as applying steady force or weight to an object; to push against, to squeeze, or compress. In skating, your goal is to maximize pressure into the ice by using the ideal body position (correct angles), moving your weight in the direction you want to go (forward momentum), and using the correct rhythm, timing, and sequence of movement.
